Terms and Conditions

Welcome, and thank you for choosing to work with Mind&Burt Therapies. These terms set out how we'll work together so that everything is clear, fair and comfortable from the outset. By booking a session, you agree to the terms below. If anything here is unclear, please do ask, I'm always happy to talk it through.

1. About me

Mind&Burt Therapies is run by Jennifer Burt, a qualified Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist. I hold the Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma (HPD) and a Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH), am enhanced DBS checked, fully insured, and work within the codes of ethics and conduct of the professional bodies I'm registered with (see section 11).

●        Trading name: Mind&Burt Therapies

●        Business structure: Sole trader

●        Contact: hello@mindandburt.co.uk · 07501 754389

2. The services I offer

I provide solution focused psychotherapy and hypnotherapy, delivered online across the UK and, in due course, in person in Cheltenham. This currently includes:

●        Standard therapy sessions (approximately 50-60 minutes)

●        A free 15-minute introductory call

●        Smoking and vaping cessation, offered as a single session of up to two hours.

Hypnosis is simply a natural, deeply relaxed state. You remain fully aware and in control throughout, and you cannot be made to do or say anything against your will. The number of sessions that suits you will vary from person to person; solution focused therapy is collaborative and forward-looking, and we'll review progress together as we go.

3. Suitability and scope of practice

Hypnotherapy and solution focused psychotherapy are complementary therapies intended to support your wellbeing. They are not a substitute for medical or psychiatric care, diagnosis or treatment, and I do not provide medical advice.

  • If you're under the care of a GP, psychiatrist or other healthcare professional, or taking prescribed medication for a mental health condition, please continue to follow their advice. Please don't stop or change any prescribed treatment without speaking to them first.

  • For some conditions I may ask for your GP's awareness before we begin.

  • I may decline to work with, or refer on, where I believe another form of support would serve you better. This is always done with your best interests at heart.

Younger clients: I welcome young people from the age of 8. For anyone under 18, a parent or guardian must give written consent before we begin, this is built into my client agreement form. In line with good therapeutic practice, what a young person shares in session stays confidential between us, except where there's a concern for their safety or the safety of others.

4. The free introductory call

The 15-minute introductory call is a no-obligation chance to talk through what you're hoping for and decide whether we're a good fit. It is not a therapy session and no therapy is provided during the call.

5. Fees and payment

●        Standard session: £75

●        Smoking and vaping cessation (single session, up to two hours): £210

●        Payment is made in advance by bank transfer. Details are provided when you book.

●        Fees may be reviewed from time to time; you'll always be told of any change before it affects you.

6. Cancellation, rescheduling and missed sessions

I appreciate that life happens. To be respectful of my time and to allow appointments to be offered to others, the following applies:

●        A minimum of 48 hours' notice is required to cancel or reschedule a session.

●        Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice will incur a charge of 50% of the session fee.

●        Non-attendance without notice (a no-show) will incur a charge of 100% of the session fee.

●        If I ever need to cancel or rearrange, I'll give you as much notice as possible and offer an alternative time or a full refund of any payment for that session.

7. Punctuality

Please arrive, or log on, on time. If you're running late, the session will still end at the scheduled time so as not to affect others. If you're more than 15 minutes late without contact, the session may be treated as a missed session.

8. Online sessions

Online sessions are held via Google Meet. You'll need a quiet, private space where you won't be disturbed, a reliable internet connection and a device with a camera and microphone. I'll send joining details and a short guide beforehand. If technical issues interrupt a session, we'll do our best to reconnect or rearrange.

9. Your part in the work

Therapy works best as a partnership. To get the most from our sessions:

  • Please attend as agreed and engage openly and honestly.

  • Solution focused work sometimes includes simple tasks or listening to a relaxation audio between sessions; doing these supports your progress.

  • You remain responsible for your own choices, actions and wellbeing throughout.

10. Confidentiality and its limits

What you share with me is treated as confidential and held securely, in line with my Privacy Notice and Data Protection Policy. There are a small number of situations where I may need to share information without your consent:

  • where there is a serious risk of harm to you or to another person;

  • where there is a safeguarding concern involving a child or a vulnerable adult;

  • where I'm required to disclose information by law (for example, under a court order, or laws relating to terrorism or money laundering).

Wherever possible and safe to do so, I'll discuss this with you first. I also discuss anonymised aspects of my work in clinical supervision, which is a professional requirement that helps me support you well; my supervisor is also bound by confidentiality. For young people, the content of sessions stays confidential between me and the young person, except where there's a concern for their safety or the safety of others.

11. Professional standards and ethics

I work within the codes of ethics, conduct and practice of the professional bodies I'm registered with, which include the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH), the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). I hold professional indemnity insurance and an enhanced DBS check, and I undertake regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development.

12. Records

I keep brief, secure notes of our work together, as required by my insurer and professional bodies. How I store, use and retain these is explained in my Privacy Notice.

13. Audio and recordings

Sessions are not recorded unless we've specifically agreed this in advance and you've given written consent. I provide a relaxation or hypnosis audio for your personal use between sessions; this remains my intellectual property and is for your use only, not for sharing or distribution.

14. Results

Everyone is different, and the outcome of therapy depends on many factors, including your individual circumstances and engagement. While I'll always work with skill, care and your goals firmly in mind, I cannot and do not guarantee specific results or outcomes.

15. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits my liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, I'm not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, and my total liability is limited to the fees you've paid for the services concerned. You're responsible for following any agreed guidance sensibly and for seeking appropriate medical advice where needed.

16. Complaints

I hope you'll always feel able to raise anything directly with me, and I'll do my best to put things right. If you'd prefer to take a concern further, you can contact the relevant professional body (AfSFH, NCH or CNHC), whose complaints procedures are available on their websites.

17. Safeguarding

I take the safety and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults seriously and will act on any safeguarding concern in line with my safeguarding responsibilities and the law.

18. Changes to these terms

I may update these terms from time to time. The version in force is the one published on my website at www.mindandburt.co.uk, dated at the bottom of this document.

19. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
